Diversidad y resiliencia. La discapacidad en el cine de ficción climática

For decades, cinema has transmitted stereotypes of abnormality and weakness about people with disabilities, something that does not help to socially integrate this group. This research analyzes the narrative and symbolic role of characters with disabilities in some of the main climate fiction films, a subgenre of science fiction that has recently gained prominence due to the climate crisis. For this purpose, the 22 top-rated films of the subgenre on the audiovisual portal IMDb and the 18 characters with disabilities they include have been studied. The analysis shows the predominance of motor disabilities, followed by visual, language, intellectual and mental disabilities. Meanwhile, hearing or visceral disabilities are residual in these climatic fiction films.References
