Abstract

This paper analyses the presence of co-words and co-citations in scientific articles indexed in Web of Science in a period from 2003 to 2022 (both years included) (N= 3,431), with the aim of considering whether risk factors have been studied more thoroughly than warning symptoms in suicide news. The analysis and representation of conceptual and bibliographic networks has been carried out using VosViewer and Pajek. A total of 6,034 words have been selected and 16,452 citations have been identified. The keywords are those specified by the authors in each document analyzed and the “Keyword plus” have not been considered, that is, the keywords automatically assigned by the Web of Science itself. With this data, a co-word map and a co-citation map have been created, where the results of a media representation of the mass media, of their potential propagating effect and of another component focused on social networks, where greater importance is given to the preventive approach, have been obtained. However, it is evident that scientific articles on suicide and the media have focused mainly on the study of risk factors rather than on the detection of possible warning symptoms.
