Abstract

The web and all the digital ecosystems face an unprecedented technological challenge: the emergence of large language models (LLM) and conversational chatbots based on generative artificial intelligence (AI). This technology has caused a gradual decrease in direct visits to websites, which, paradoxically, constitute the main source of data and training corpus for their algorithms. In this context, web quality evaluation is of vital importance to ensure that sites provide structured and reliable information inputs, allowing AI to offer better answers to users. This article details the most relevant methods, techniques, and tools for web quality evaluation. Based on a systematized literature review, the formal definition of the concept is presented, and three predominant evaluation approaches are analyzed: experiential, functional, and strategic. Likewise, expert or heuristic inspection methodologies and user experience studies are rigorously described, finally synthesizing a five-stage framework for the creation of new evaluation instruments. It is concluded that methodological triangulation guarantees a comprehensive and exhaustive analysis of any website.
